When Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana decided to pair up in 1985 to create what is now one of the most revolutionary and influential fashion houses in the world, the only thing they ever argued about was the name. Should it be Dolce & Gabbana or Gabbana & Dolce?
They decided to settle it the gentlemanly way … arm wrestling. What ensued was one of the most epic battles in fashion history. The pair were quite evenly matched and equally motivated for their name to appear first, so the face-off carried on for days until Dolce finally emerged the victor.
Luckily, a particularly perspicacious intern placed buckets under the table during the showdown to collect the resulting sexy Italian man juices. After Dolce and Gabbana had toweled off, they each caught a whiff of it, and agreed it would be a crime not to bottle and sell it. And the rest is history.
